All my art is hand created in layers of pastels, utilizing sealants between layers to "fix" the pastels in place. I have used oils occasionally, but pastels are my jam! Sometimes mistaken for oils, pastels have vibrancy and life and are my all time favorite medium. I find them to be user friendly and easy to handle in terms of space and usage, and am excited to finally share some of the ways I use them with you!
I am gearing up to teach a virtual class on my art techniques for fall of 2024. This will be a limited sign up, and I will be hammering down the details with more on that to come. My goal is to help you unlock your talents and find your style, giving you helpful tips and guidance along the way.
I will have a complete list for those of you who want to try your hand at pastels on model horses! I get asked about supplies all the time, for those of you getting started, I thought I would compile a basic list of recommendations for setting up to pastels!
One of the main brands I recommend as a quick easy way to get started is Pan Pastels. They have created pallets for artists that run over into the model horse coloring. I have sampled a couple of the sets here:
Rust/Earth color kit:
Grey/Grime and soot:
Skin Tones:
Greyscale:
There are of course individual colors as well, and this is a great way to build up a started set for those of you curious about the products I use. I will be building this list as I go!
